Institute of Crop Science Conducts Internship Pre-deployment Seminar

The Institute of Crop Science conducted its Internship Pre-deployment Seminar for students set to be deployed to various Host Training Establishment (HTE), including both government and private institutions last June 2, 2025.

The seminar aimed to provide students with insights into real-life experiences in their chosen field. It also sought to equip them with the necessary skills to navigate workplace dynamics, collaborate with professionals, and engage effectively with clients.

The program opened with remarks from Dr. Eureka Teresa M. Ocampo, who shared words of encouragement and practical tips to help students prepare for their internships. Dr. Ocampo emphasized that the students must carry themselves with professionalism, be curious, respectful, proactive, and appreciate what they have and what they can learn. This was followed by a detailed presentation from Dr. Carlo Miguel C. Sandoval, Dr. Norma G. Medina, and Dr. Roselyn F. Paelmo on the prerequisites, required documents, and submission timelines related to the internship process.

Representatives from the HTEs were invited to give students a preview of the organization’s goals and activities. Mr. Ricky Bryan U. Biagtan, University Extension Associate from the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB), and Ms. Ethel Roe Y. Ramirez from Farm Inc., introduced their respective institutions and outlined what students could expect during their internship. They also shared their expectations of interns in terms of conduct, professionalism, and work ethics.

An open forum followed the talks, allowing students to ask questions, raise concerns, and clarify any uncertainties with the speakers and faculty.

To close the event, Prof. Angelo C. Castro delivered the closing remarks, offering final words of encouragement, reminders, and a challenge for students to make the most of this valuable learning opportunity.

The program was smoothly facilitated by Mr. John Bryan E. Lawas, University Research Associate, and Assistant Professor Mark Ian C. Calayugan. Overall, the seminar was a vital step in preparing students mentally and professionally for their upcoming internships.
